So for the past year and a half I have been working as Goldsmith/CAD designer/Workshop manager for a small jewellery brand based in London's jewellery quarter, Hatton Garden. (http://www.hannahmartinlondon.com/)
Because I am working either at the bench or in front of the computer designing on CAD, I haven't been doing much of my own work. I have however been doing a few commissions, one of which is pictured below. This was an engagement ring for a friend of mine who wanted something simple and classical, using some amazing rose cut stones which came out of an old family engagement ring.
Here is a quick CAD rendering to show the client what they can expect. I usually run through a number of different ideas in sketch for before going into the CAD program and building the model, which is then 3D printed and cast in the desired metal. Once cast I assemble the final ring and send it off to an amazing setter round the corner from the workshop.
The final ring ( apologies for the bad picture, I gave this to my friend so he could propose the same day that it came back from the polishers!)

The beauty of CAD is that I can quickly show what the ring would look like in different metals, enabling the client to choose which they would like best. In this case 18 carat white gold.
